Jane Askew BA (Hons)

I am a fine artist based on the South Coast at Fareham in Hampshire.  I graduated from the University of Chichester with a BA (Hons) Fine Art (First Class).  I currently specialise in oil and watercolour painting.

Much of my work is inspired by the view from and environment surrounding my suburban home, which overlooks a fragment of countryside gradually being subsumed by suburban sprawl.  I am particularly interested in how the banal 1970s suburban housing sits uneasily with the remnants of what was once open parkland, where majestic trees merge with the distant landscape, alluding to a lost Arcadia.   My most recent work responds to suburbia as night falls and the transformative effect of street lighting on the surroundings.
